Grand Nordic Ski Club Meeting at MPHS - September 20, 2002

Present: Connie made a motion to move future club meetings to Snow Mt. Ranch, since the majority of those who attend are from the Fraser Valley & Red Dirt Hill. Motion seconded by Phil. Approved.

Minutes from June 13th meeting were approved. Copies were passed out, and additional copies are available from Connie on email.

Running race for Anne Mudgett raised $3,000, which Anne & Scott F. planned to donate back to the community. They have moved back to Michigan, where she continues her rehab.

Grand Nordic had an entry in the July 4th parade in Granby. Several adult club members on rollerskis carried the brand new club banner, accompanied by about a dozen youth skiers on rollerblades. There are two banners, and they are available for club members to use at whatever function you think they would be useful. (The club purchased one banner, and was given the second one free).

Ski hats were discussed as a fundraiser, and Phil is going to send information/email contacts, to Susan O. for Swix and Jytte hats. Hats could be a membership benefit, or they could be sold at cost, or as a fundraiser. The number of hats needed for a custom order, and the cost per hat, are two factors to be looked at.

Membership chairman: Roy K. volunteered to take this on. The job entails entering all data on members, following up on those who don't rejoin from the previous year, and faxing any announcements to the local newspaper.

A new vice president is needed for the club, to replace the regional VP's of the past.

Expenses: Connie made a motion that all future club purchases be limited to a maximum of $50.00, unless approved by the club board. Seconded by Susan. Approved.

Committees

Club Officers: The board wishes to thank Connie for all her hard work over the past eighteen months serving as the first Grand Nordic Prsident.

Diane's treasurers report was presented. Since the June meeting, there have been expenditures for the banner, and flowers and a gift for Anne Mudgett after her car accident.

The treasurers report was accepted by Phil, seconded by Diana, and approved.

Clint Roberts, the coaching coordinator, will prepare a class list and submit it to Diane Legner & Rick Foutch by October 22nd for the winter ski classes.

The club ski swap will be held on Tuesday, October 29th, at the Snow Mt. Ranch Nordic Center. It will be a potluck/ski swap/club meeting, which will start at 5:00 pm. The potluck will go until 6:30, and the swap will close at 8:00 pm. Diane Legner will provide swap forms. Contact Shawn Delaney at the YMCA, prior to the swap, to drop off items for sale. For 2003, the club will try to hold its swap in late September/early October, prior to the Winter Park Comp. Center swap.

Future board meetings will become pizza party/socials/club meetings, in order to attract more club members.

Announcements from the YMCA: This winter all Fridays will be local ski free days, for all Grand County residents. Grand Nordic volunteers will receive free passes in exchange for presenting wax clinics & skiing with YMCA groups/guests. More details to follow from Shawn Delaney, the new nordic director at the YMCA. Thanksgiving weekend they will host a race, skiing or running, depending on the conditions. In December they will also host a "wooly", a no lycra retro event/race. Headstarts for those with wooden skis.

Juniors report: Meetings have been held at EGMS for 6-8th graders, and at MPHS for 9-12th graders. Both were well attended, according to JR Wolff, the volunteer club coach for this year.

Middle Park is having a homecoming parade on October 3rd at 6:00 pm. Phil has several pair of club rollerskis which can be used for the parade.

Web page report: Winter Park Web will host the Grand Nordic site. Dream Weaver software is needed to set it up, which will cost about $160.00. A volunteer is needed to maintain the site. Susan made a motion to purchase the new software, seconded by Phil. Approved. Patty has been putting all of this together.

The Grand Nordic website will have a link to the Grand Foundation website. The foundation has their Shoulder Season Bash fundraiser in October, and Roy will attend on behalf of the club.
